Leaving two kids and a husband behind to travel across the country for three days is no easy task.
It requires days of planning, hours of last-minute preparations and multiple to-do lists. Tasks included, but were not limited to, the following:
- Finishing four loads of laundry.
- Calling the pediatrician and ordering pre-emptive antibiotic for Adelaide (who sits right next to Jacob in class and had come down with strep throat).
- Prepping snacks and lunches for the girls.
- Making sure all bills were caught up.
- Hitting up bank, post office, Target and UPS store.
- Fueling up the car.
- Delivering two necklaces to customers.
- Getting 35 pounds of skirt steak from Costco.
- Getting all the ingredients from the grocery store for preparing 35 pounds of Korean BBQ for 50 Indian princesses and their dads.
- Making marinade for 8 pounds of asian cucumber salad. (See above).
- Emptying dishwasher.
-Picking up dress from dry cleaners.
- Getting nails done (I never said I was all work and no play).
- Sending emails to husband, sister wives and grandparents confirming all details of kid pick up, drop off, carpooling and more.
Oh, and did I mention I had a double-header photoshoot in the midst of all that?
In any case, getting on a plane armed with a fear of flying, sans children, at the end of the school year, and in the height of our family's busy season ... involved pulling an all-nighter and hitting the road at 4 a.m. for an early-morning flight from Orange County, Calofornia to Albany, New York ... final destination of Burlington, Vermont.
But when I stood between my two baby brothers on the grounds of Bennington College on the eve of Eric's graduation ... there was not a moment's doubt that it was all worth it!
Call it a proud sister moment. Call it a moment of gratitude to my dad and stepmom (there must be a better name for that role) for bringing me here. Call it a moment I will never forget.
Talia, that was a beautiful and I know truthful accounting of getting ready to leave. I remember those days and yes it is worth it at the end of the day. Have a good time and congrats to your brother. Sandi
